While we do not see a lot of women that are unsatisfied with their breast implants, we do see some women who want their breast implants removed. They don’t like the way that they look anymore or maybe they just feel too big now that the woman is in her 60s or 70s. Regardless of why you might want your breast implants removed, you should know that not only is it possible, but it is also practical.
Many women fear that if their unwanted breast implants are removed, then their natural breasts will look terrible. They feel worried that the natural breasts will look flat, deflated, or less than attractive. The truth is that breasts can be put back together from the inside just as easily as an implant can be added from the outside.
The Right Surgical Procedure
The first step to removing breast implants is to focus on choosing the right surgical procedure. This is something that your plastic surgeon will need to do for you, but you can help. Answer your surgeon’s questions carefully and make sure to ask about internal breast work. Once the breast implant is removed, most patients will require internal breast work and it is a good idea to have this work mapped out before surgery. Most breast implant work involves placing the hanging breast tissue back into the central area of the breast so that the patient can have a full breast that is at a normal height after the removal of the implant. The surgeon will also look at ways to minimize scars from the surgical procedure.
What to Expect After Breast Implant Removal
After your breast implant removal surgery, plan to relax at home for a full three days. During this time, you will have pain medication that will be provided by the surgeon. You will also be relaxing in a comfortable bra. This surgical bra will have adjustable straps and is designed to support your breasts as they heal so that you do not feel too much pain. After these three full days of resting, you should be able to return to your normal life and all of your normal activities although exercise and other strenuous activities will need to be avoided for the first week to the first week and a half after surgery.
